There are a large number
of website development methods and tools out there. We've listed a few
that we've had some experience with.
FREE Website Development Solutions
Google Page Creator. A recent addition, Google offers a free, basic
'template' website development tool. It currently allows a user to
create a multiple-page site, using one of several 'templates'. The
created site is hosted by Google, and (currently) displays without
advertising. To use, you must first sign up for a gMail email account
(also free).

Google Page Creator and a sample site at

GoDaddy's
FREE Website Tonight. Ad supported, free 5 page site with
domain purchase. A more extensive 'template' website development tool than
Google, but GoDaddy sponsored ads will appear on the top of every page.
Includes hosting of the site by GoDaddy.

Low-Cost, Template-Driven Website Solutions
GoDaddy Website Tonight.
The same program as above, but ad-free. Starts at under $5/month for 5 pages, with unlimited pages
for less than $13/month. All versions include site hosting by GoDaddy. GoDaddy.com.
Yahoo! Small Business Web Hosting. Yahoo! Web
Hosting offers more than 400 professionally created designs that can be used
with their Site Solution or SiteBuilder site building tools. Prices
start at under $12/month, and includes hosting of the site by Yahoo.
Yahoo! Web Hosting.
Do-It-Yourself Web Development
Classically, web sites were developed from scratch (in contrast to
'template-drive', above), by purchasing a web development program and
arranging site hosting at a local or national ISP. That approach still
offers the most creative control, and is often the best solution when your
site will includes a lot od dynamic content (Flash, etc) or data
(databases).
Microsoft FrontPage: We've been using FrontPage as a primary web development tool for many years, and continue to find it a good balance between ease of use, functionality, and relatively low cost. A major benefit is it's integration with, and similar functionality to Microsoft Office - particularly MS Word. This
similarity has made it fairly easy to turn over maintenance and/or ongoing development to our clients after we've completed their web presence.
Check availability at Amazon.com .
But Microsoft has discontinued it, and availability is becoming limited. IF you have a copy, or can purchase one, there are still many hosting services that provide support, including
GoDaddy .
Microsoft Expression Web:
Microsoft's replacement for FrontPage, Expression Web is an up-to-date,
standards based development tool for building very functional websites using
all the latest technologies. To quote Microsoft: "A professional
design tool to create modern, standards-based sites which deliver superior
quality on the Web".

free trial from Microsoft. Or

FrontPage upgrade from Amazon.com.
